Scoring a total of 27 points at this weekend's 2013 Belgian Grand Prix, the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula 1 team consolidated the second place in the Constructor's Championship.
A strong race outcome for the team but a not so strong individual race result for neither Lewis Hamilton or Nico Rosberg though, who finished third and fourth in the race, respectively.
After an eventful qualifications round that seemed to be either wet or dry, Hamilton had managed to secure his fourth pole position in a row, almost everyone giving him the best chances of winning the race.
Unfortunately, his car's performance proved to be mediocre compared to Sebastian Vettel's RedBull and he was passed right in the first lap of the race.
“I got everything that I could out of the car today but we just weren’t as quick as Sebastian and Fernando. I made a nice start and it felt like the exit out of turn one was good, too. But Seb just caught me on the run out of Eau Rouge and there wasn’t really much I could do to defend: I moved once, like we are allowed to, but then I just had to watch him glide by. From that point, it was very difficult to hold on to him, and the same thing happened with Fernando, too, later in the race. We have done a good job this weekend but Spa and Monza are always unique tracks because of the low-drag requirements and I expect we will be more competitive in Singapore again. It’s still a great team result to finish third with Nico right behind me in fourth, so we will take the positives from this afternoon into the next races.” said Hamilton.
Sebastian Vettel managed to cement his 2013 lead with another win, giving him a total of 197 points in the Driver's Championship, while Fernando Alonso finished second, which is the same place he has in the driver's championship standings.
The Contructor's Championship is still lead by RedBull Racing-Renault, with Mercedes-Benz followed closely by Ferrari in second and third place, respectively.
