It ran at 75% of its power. It used 75% of its downforce. And still, it broke the record for the quickest closed-wheel car at Hockenheim, the famous German racetrack. Meet the pint-size McMurtry Speirling Pure fan car. It looks every inch a Batmobile and it acts like one, too.
Yes, you got that right. The McMutry Speirling Pure is ready to put an end to the reign of well established race cars. It turned out to be 3.9 seconds faster than the fastest DTM qualifying time in 2020 and 14.1 seconds faster than the production car record set by the Mercedes-AMG One hypercar in 2022. These are the numbers that make it the fastest closed-wheel car ever to lap Hockenheimring.

This is not a hit-and-run. The model broke Rimac Nevera's 0 to 60 mph and quarter mile records. The Speirling accelerated from 0 to 60 in just 1.4 seconds and ran the quarter mile in 7.97 seconds while filming for the YouTube channel Carwow. That made McMutry's car quicker by 0.5 and 0.6 seconds, respectively.

Looking like a Batmobile and flashing past race cars, the McMurtry Speirling Pure is not going to stop. It has other records to break in 2024 and 2025 and it sounds like each attempt will to be a walk in the park once the car inches closer to the settings that provide it with 100% power and 100% downforce.

The model, in the shape of Validation Prototype 1, was unveiled earlier this month to track-driving customers at the Hockenheimring Formula 1 circuit and put to test over two days, during which they had the chance to experience its capabilities.

On June 8, at Hockenheimring, with the car running at 75% power and 75% downforce, the team shattered the lap time record. It crossed the finish line of the 2.842-mile F1 track after 1 minute and 24.43 seconds in the hands of former F1 driver Max Chilton. The figures were validated by independent timekeepers. The 33-year-old racing driver is also the record holder at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, completing the 1.16-mile hill climb in a record 39.08 seconds.

The lap Max Chilton ran at Hockenheim on board the McMurtry reminded him of the times he raced in Formula 1 ten years ago. Everyone present at the track day wanted a piece of the vehicle, taking photos and videos of it and listening to the story behind the project.

The McMurtry features a unique downforce-on-demand system that provides the necessary downforce and grip from the moment it launches on the track. Its electric powertrain pumps out 1,000 horsepower. The one behind the wheel can select the performance drive mode from GT3 to F1-level pace.

The team plans to make record-breaking performance accessible to track driving enthusiasts. Those who want to have a track weapon the size of a pocket rocket can order it for a starting price of 895k pounds, plus taxes and delivery. That translates to $1,134,850.
