On paper, the McLaren Artura is one of the best supercars in the world, especially when you consider the overall package. You get a plug-in hybrid drivetrain that packs a massive punch, and you can even drive it on electric power alone for about 20 miles. It’s a best of both worlds type of deal. Even the name is cool: Artura. Sounds like it means business.
The flip side is that exotics like the Artura are about to become a lot more mainstream. Hybrid power is taking over, and it’ll lay the foundation for what’s to come next – meaning a day in which 100% of all new supercars will be battery electric. That day’s coming; it’s just a question of how soon.

Anyway, let’s focus up here and talk about this 2023 McLaren Artura example, with roughly 9,000 miles on its twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 hybrid engine. I mean, I already see a problem, don’t you? This is not a low-mileage car. Somebody’s been driving this thing, maybe even on a daily basis. That’s going to impact its resale value and there’s no way around it.

In contrast, the spec is rather interesting. The Tokyo Cyan exterior is gorgeous. Almost looks like it was made for South Beach rather than Concord, Ontario (Canada), which is where the car resides today.

Still, the seller (a local dealership) found themselves forced to reject a bid of $166,000, which is both telling and a little insulting. Alright, it’s very insulting, not just a little. The Artura retails from about $250,000 today. There’s no way $166k is an accurate reflection on depreciation.

There are various factors at play here, such as bidders having to import the vehicle into the U.S. while also paying various taxes and fees – and again, the mileage doesn’t help. If I had to guess, I’d say the reserve was set for at least $200,000. Alas, it’s a dog-eat-dog world and as far as this listing is concerned, there are no winners, only losers.

The dealership loses because it’s unlikely they’ll be able to sell it in the United States, and the bidders lose because there’s no way they’re getting it “on the cheap” with such lowball offers.

Luckily, there are plenty of wealthy individuals with a predisposition for driving expensive supercars in the Ontario region. Just think about all the professional athletes that play for Toronto-based sports franchises, like the Raptors, Maple Leafs or the Blue Jays.

Aside from the Tokyo Cyan exterior, other noteworthy features on this Artura include the gloss black roof, dihedral doors, brushed aluminum engine cover, ten-spoke 19” and 20” wheels with Pirelli P Zero rubber, a front axle lift system, black leather seats with body-color piping, a Bowers & Wilkins sound system, and lots more.

As for performance, the Artura’s mid-mounted twin-turbo hybrid V6 is putting down a combined 671 horsepower and 530 lb-ft of torque. It’ll get you from zero to 60 mph in about 2.9 seconds, before maxing you out at 205 mph (330 kph).
