McLaren will celebrate its past and present rides at the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed (FoS) next week. The event, which kicks off on July 11 and ends on the 14th, will see the British exotic car maker demonstrate multiple rides on the famous Hillclimb.
Leading the McLaren pack will be the Senna dressed in the Senna Sempre livery. This model is a tribute to the late Ayrton Senna and will sit under the spotlight at the McLaren House. Signed by MSO (McLaren Special Operations), the vibrant colors are said to "visually represent Ayrton's vibrant personality and outlook on life."
Other McLarens will be displayed at the McLaren House, whereas others will drive up the hill. The Solus GT, for instance, returns to the event and will be put through its paces by Mika Hakkinen next Saturday. This is one of 25 customer cars that will be shipped as part of the Solus GT program. It is a bespoke commission whose paint matches the MP4/13 Hakkinen drove in 1998.
McLaren celebrates 50 years since its first F1 World Championship victories, winning the World Driver's and Constructor's titles in 1974. Emerson Fittipaldi then drove the McLaren M23, and the Brazilian will return to the racer's wheel at Goodwood. The 1974 Indy 500 winner M16C/D will also be showcased in the McLaren Garage in the F1 paddock.
One brand-new model from the company's portfolio, the Artura Spider, will make its UK dynamic debut at Goodwood FoS. This model debuted at the beginning of the year as a continuation of the automaker's Sports Series with an open-top design. It weighs 3,252 pounds (1,475 kg), making it 137 pounds (62 kg) heavier than the coupe, and the weight penalty is blamed mostly on the folding hardtop, as the carbon and aluminum structure was already very stiff.
A hybrid powertrain with a combined 690 horsepower (700 ps/515 kW) and 531 pound-foot (720 Nm) of torque enables a 205 mph (330 kph) top speed and naught to sixty-two mph (0-100 kph) in three seconds flat. Thus, it is equally fast to its fixed-roof sibling in terms of acceleration and maximum speed.
The Artura Spider is not the only fresh Macca that will be demonstrated on the Goodwood Hill, as the 750S, which replaced the 720S in the brand's lineup, will join it. It uses an upgraded 4.0L twin-turbo V8 with 740 hp (750 ps/552 kW) and 590 pound-foot (800 Nm) of torque, 30 hp (30 ps/22 kW) and 22 pound-foot (30 Nm) more than its predecessor. It takes 2.8s to 62 mph and has a 206 mph (332 kph) top speed. McLaren will also bring the new GTS, the Senna, and the P1 to next week's event.
