If you we’re expecting to see Maserati’s latest concept car then you’ve come to the wrong place, as the Boomerang is not Modena’s new creation, but a one-off vehicle that was introduced more than 40 years ago.
Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, the Maserati Boomerang was unveiled as a non-functional concept at the Turin Auto Show in 1971 and showcased for a second time, with a 4.7-liter V8 engine under the hood, at the Geneva Auto Show the next year.
Even though it was registered as a road car, the rear-wheel drive Boomerang wasn’t intended to become a production vehicle. It was sold to a private collector in 1974 and made several public appearances the past 20 years, including the Monterey Historic Automobile Races in 2000.
More recently, the concept car was spotted in action in Nice, France, probably attracting the same king of attention as it did back in its early days. 42 years old and still running, now that’s something!
