Sergio Marchionne will remain CEO of Fiat-Chrysler until at least 2017, John Elkann, chairman of the Fiat Group, revealed at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show. Marchionne, 61, will oversee the full merger between Fiat and Chrysler and the company's new three-year business plan, which will be revealed in May.
"In early May Fiat-Chrysler will unveil a new three-year business plan and we have agreed that Sergio will drive the company at least for the entire duration of this plan," Elkann said in Detroit, according to Automotive News.
Earlier reports said that Marchionne will step down as Fiat-Chrysler CEO in 2015, with either Mike Manley, Alfredo Altavilla, Reid Bigland or Richard Palmer to be named as his successor.
The Fiat-Chrysler merger is about to be completed this month, as the United Auto Workers' VEBA Trust has agreed to sell its 41.46 percent stake in Chrysler. The UAW will receive $4.35 billion.
