Hit the highway in a Bugatti, drive like no tomorrow, and yet get no speed ticket. It can only happen in Germany, on the autobahn with no speed limit sectors. And that’s exactly where it happened. The owner of a Bugatti Chiron went flat out on the autobahn at 6 in the morning until the gas light came on.
The autobahn is a paradise for those who have a heavy foot on the throttle. More than half of the total length of the German highway has no speed limit, allowing drivers to drive as fast as their cars are able to.

However, for the past few years, under pressure from environmental organizations, the German authorities have considered imposing speed limitats everywhere on the autobahn, which has a total length of 13,192 kilometers (8,197 miles). The move would reduce pollution, but also the risk of accidents.

Furthermore, the German government recommends a maximum speed of 130 kph, which translates to 81 mph. But drivers who go as fast as they want get no speed ticket. For some of them, "as fast as they want" means over 400 kph (249 mph).

That is exactly what it means for a Bugatti Chiron Sport driver, Omid Mouzsenn, who took his car to an unrestricted sector of the highway and went flat out, hitting 413 kph (256.6 mph). The drive was a goodbye run on the desert highway, at 6 AM. "This is my last drive in this car. One last goodbye," he says overwhelmed with emotion.

Omid doesn’t explain what this last goodbye means, but he is probably going to sell the Bugatti. What he does explain is that this experience was more than just driving fast. He remembers that when his family emigrated from Iran to Germany, they had nothing. Years later, he roams the highway in a $3.3 million Bugatti Chiron Sport.

The hypercar is powered by the almighty 8.0-liter, quad-turbocharged, 16-cylinder W16. The engine pumps out 1,479 horsepower (1,500 metric horsepower) and 1,180 pound-feet (1,600 Newton meters) of torque.

The Moselheim-made land rocket can flash from 0 to 60 mph in 2.2 seconds, runs the quarter mile in 9.3 seconds and hits a top speed of 276 kph (444 kph).

Omid could have probably done more himself. But two minutes and four seconds into the video, the gas light came on. So, after the video, he probably stopped at the gas station to refuel the thirsty monster, equipped with a fuel tank of 100 liters (22 gallons).

That’s definitely not much considering the Bugatti’s EPA-rated fuel economy of 11.1 gallons/100 miles. But those numbers are going to change, because next month, Bugatti is going to introduce an all-new model, which will be powered by a hybrid powertrain, integrating a naturally aspirated V16 engine.
