Last week, 26-year-old rapper Mac Miller was found unresponsive in his home, from an apparent drug overdose. This week, Los Angeles prosecutors will formally drop the DUI case against him.
In May this year, the rapper was driving his 2016 Mercedes-AMG G 63 in San Fernando Valley, when he crashed into a utility pole. The one-vehicle accident was so bad that Miller was forced to write off the car completely, and it went up on the auction block some time later.
Neither he nor his passenger were hurt in the accident, despite its seriousness. In fact, Miller and his buddy got out of the car and walked the rest of the way to the rapper’s home, where they waited for the police to come. He didn’t say whether that was meant to help him avoid the paparazzi, but he was fully cooperative with the cops when they got there.
In fact, he was very nice to them, earning him praise in the official police report. He even admitted that he had fled the scene because he was drunk, and that he knew he shouldn’t be driving in his condition. The cops still arrested him and he got to sober up in jail overnight.
Miller was later charged with DUI and hit and run. Now that he’s dead, prosecutors will be closing the case, TMZ reports.
“The City Attorney's Office will officially drop the charges against Mac. He was supposed to be arraigned Tuesday in an LA courtroom, but we're told it's been taken off the docket and official paperwork will soon be filed,” the publication says.
Miller has never made a secret of his struggle with addiction, both to drugs and alcohol, so his DUI arrest hardly came as a surprise. What did come as a shock was his death, as he was believed to have overcome his drug addiction.
