Roughly a decade ago, Saleen unveiled three upgraded sixth-gen Mustangs, featuring three distinct specifications. You had the entry-level White Label, the mid-spec Yellow Label, and the flagship Black Label. All were available as both coupes and convertibles and came with improved power and torque figures.
They also featured a wide range of aero and mechanical upgrades, albeit ones that look relatively subtle. I’ve always liked the look of Saleen-tuned Mustangs, and the car we’re looking at here is no different. This is a 2021 example, featuring the S302 White Label specification. It used to be up for grabs at auction until recently, when it failed to sell.
Its owner, a dealership out of Alexandria, Louisiana, said ‘no’ to a top bid of $31,750, which may or may not have been the right move. We’ve seen several Saleen-tuned S550 Mustangs go for a lot more at auction, but keep in mind this one has 26,000 miles on the clock, so it’s not exactly brand-new.
Anyway, let’s look at the specs, starting with the exterior. The first thing you’ll notice is the Twister Orange Metallic Tri-Coat colorway, followed by the black accents, rear window louvers, and probably the staggered-width 20” wheels (they have a mixed set of General G-Max RS and Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires).
Then there’s the revised bodywork, which includes a high-downforce rear wing, an axial front grille, side skirts, performance hood vents, custom taillight panel, and a custom front fascia (with an integrated splitter). This thing also boasts an upgraded suspension, featuring Racecraft specific-rate front and rear springs courtesy of Saleen.
Meanwhile, interior highlights include the black leather seats with gray inserts, dual-zone automatic climate control, adaptive cruise control, the SYNC 3 touchscreen infotainment system with sat-nav, a multifunction steering wheel with a red center stripe and Alcantara grips, Saleen-branded horn button and dial overlays, plus a custom badge on the passenger side of the dashboard that identifies this as 302 White Label #35.
As for performance, the 5.0-liter V8 has been fitted with a custom air filter, custom ECU (engine control unit), plus a high-performance exhaust system. According to the ad, this Mustang is putting down 500 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque, with everything going to the rear wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential.
The thing is, Saleen themselves claim that the White Label S302 Mustang is only good for 475 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. Regardless, it’s not a large discrepancy.
Of course, had this been a Yellow Label or a Black Label car, the performance would have reflected that. The former would have been good for 740 horsepower and 610 lb-ft of torque, while the latter would have put down 760 horsepower and 630 lb-ft of torque.
