One year ago, we still assumed 2020 would be the most amazing, accomplishing, and fun-filled year of our life, and boy, were we wrong! The silver lining to it was that it forced us to adapt, adjust and overcome.
Faced with unprecedented travel restrictions, campers, trailers, RVs, and motorhomes have boomed, a trend that remains strong to this day. Since flying isn’t recommended, we’re starting to rediscover the beauty of the area or country we’re living in, mostly thanks to trailers hooked to our personal passenger vehicle on family road trips.
The bottom line is that trailers are offering us a kind of freedom that is even more valuable these days because of the overwhelming, soul-crushing routine our daily existence has become. And, what do you know, these trailers are also good for high-fashion houses like Louis Vuitton.
As noted above, 2020 has been a big year for adjusting, so at the end of it, LV introduced a service called LV by Appointment. A simpler form of it already existed, in that you could call ahead at a store near you and have a sales associate help you out with your selection when you got there. With the international health crisis leading to social distancing and a legitimate fear of being in closed, crowded spaces, LV expanded on that service with mobile units.
You could call them pop-up stores, but they’re more than that. They’re basically custom, double-axle trailers restyled to look like a grade-A fitting room that travel throughout the city to meet LV customers. The first round of these trailers was debuted in November in New York, and, as of this month, they’re also present in California, in Los Angeles and Orange, WWD reports. Louis Vuitton plans to offer the service here for the next four months, and there’s a good chance it might extend it afterward – either in the same area or someplace else.
The idea is simple, convenient and with loads of appeal for LV customers. Say you want to go on a shopping spree. You pick up the phone and call your nearest Louis Vuitton store and book an appointment. The sales associate on the phone will talk you through sizing, preferences, and needs, so that the store will be able to curate an entire collection for you. You have to be loaded to afford this; it goes without saying. You can’t call them to buy a discounted wallet.
Once everything is settled, the store will load everything into the trailer and drive straight to your doorstep. The Robb Report notes that the collection can include anything from accessories to clothes, fragrances, watches and jewelry, and even rarities like vintage items or items from the latest collections.
Think of it this way: you’ll be getting your very own LV store for your personal use, with only the stuff you’re personally interested in.
When the trailer arrives at your doorstep, only you and two other people will be invited inside, where you can spend as much time as you want or need to peruse and try on these items. The trailer is well ventilated and, if the weather permits, will be left wide open to allow for proper circulation of air. Moreover, LV promises each trailer is disinfected between visits so that you will run no risk of coming into contact with other people’s germs.
The LV by Appointment service comes at no extra cost, but we assume some pre-approval process for the customer will be taking place before you can enjoy it.
Granted, this is an exclusive service from a fashion house whose products most of us can’t afford off the rack. But when it comes to keeping it real and going that extra mile (so very literally), Louis Vuitton is just like us – rolling in a trailer.
