Here's a nifty combination of two German icons: bike builder Marcus Waltz and Louis, probably the largest motorcycle parts and accessories retailer in Europe. The result? The Louis 75th Anniversary Ducati Sport 1000 by Walz.
In fact it's "Walz and the online community" as pretty much all of the elements of the custom Ducati have been subjected to online voting: concept, wheels, instruments and handlebar, finish and so on.
The resulting machine is however true to the Walz principles: clean, simple looks and merciless aggressivity, in just the right amount of both for a streetfighter with a ton of attitude. One of the first things which pops into view is the very tidy look of the Ducati Sport 1000: with Hypermotard oil lines and careful rewiring, the new bike sports a neat and airy look which is indeed better than the original.
Since the Louis bike was to become a “cafe-fighter”, rear sub-frame, seat and tank needed reworking. Made in hand-beaten aluminium, these parts also added to functionality and weight saving: together with the custom Akrapovic exhaust and Öhlins rear shock, the Louis Ducati lost more than 20 kg (44 lbs).
As for the rest, Walz went of with top-drawer parts: a Ducati 999R Öhlins fork, Brembo calipers on Lucas rotors, LSL bars and a Louis headlight, Ergal clutch cover and SBK clutch, Metzeler Racetec K3 tires on Akront rims.
The Walz Jubiläumsbike (German for Jubileum Bike) will tour the Louis stores in 2013 and will be auctioned for charity.
