The E9x M3 models were the only ones to use a V8 engine. Compared to their predecessors that used inline 6-cylinder and 4-cylinder units, the last iteration of the famous high-performance car could be considered ... peculiar.
On the other hand, they were also the last ones to use naturally aspirated engines built by BMW. Not only the last M cars to do so but the last cars made by the Bavarians that weren’t turbocharged.
Such a rare feat wasn’t going to be overlooked by the Germans and the E9x platform received probably the most ‘special edition’ models in the world.
In the US there were many such versions, from the Lime Rock Park Edition to the Frozen Paint ones that we’re focusing right now. Only 150 Frozen M3s were ever made, all of them for the US market, ranging between 3 color choices: White, Blue and Red.
While the white ones were the most popular, reds dropped to the bottom of the list. Even so, seeing such a model is a rare thing. That’s not only because of their limited numbers but also because of their restrictive prices (around $15,000 more than a ‘regular’ M3).
However, for those bigger prices you did get some kit, including the Competition Package (19” wheels, EDC, lowered suspension, Sport mapping for ECU), Premium Package, Extended Novillo Leather, high gloss exterior trims, 6-speed manual transmission and a carbon fiber roof panel.
