Back in June, we showed you spyshots of a jacked up Lexus CT test mule which had been correlated to information coming from Japan which suggested the luxury automaker was working on a smaller crossover to slot under the RX and attract younger buyers.
We said the crossover would be called the NX, and we were right on the money. Seeming out of the blue, Lexus made an official statement which says they will show a mid-size crossover concept ( think RAV4 size, not luxury mid-size) at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week.
The visionary concept is called the LF-NX and it combines the usual Lexus design language with a lot more sharpness. Its every line is either bulging, as if it were straining to contain a gigantic force.
"In profile, the LF-NX concept presents muscular wheel arches, edged with a black protective finish that expresses its urban crossover character. Above the pronounced diamond shape of the belt line, the side glazing is arranged in the classic Lexus profile, which works with the steep rake of the tailgate to create an athletic coupe-like silhouette," the Japanese automaker says.
The only mention of a powertrain is that the concept has Lexus Hybrid Drive full hybrid powertrain tuned for SUV performance. Leaked info would have us believe this refers to a RX 300h, likely to be powered by the same 2.5-lier engine and electric motor combo as seen on the ES 300h in America or in rear-wheel drive form in IS 300h in Europe.
The Frankfurt-bound concept car will be finished in Brushed Metal Silver exterior finish, indicating Lexus wants an answer to BMW's frozen finish.
