Be honest: how freaked out were you the first time you saw "Jaws”? Pretty much so, right? But my guess is that was the proper kind of fright, the one people tend to look back at with a bit of nostalgia once they grow older. If that's the case, then this incredible LEGO Jaws set is for you.
Jaws is one of those classic Steven Spielberg movies that will forever be referenced when appropriate. The flick was released in 1974, making this year the perfect moment to celebrate half a century of nightmares for some and pure entertainment for others.

LEGO is doing this by releasing a dedicated set. Pulled from the unending pool of amazing creations we all know as the LEGO Ideas, the set is the work of a random guy named Johnny Campbell, a person with a strong passion for both plastic bricks and the Spielberg movie.

The set is not a toy in the usual LEGO style but a diorama. It's meant to depict perhaps the movie's most iconic scene, the one where the unstoppable shark attacks the Orca boat, and when Police Chief Martin Brody, played by Roy Scheider, spoke the famous phrase: "You’re gonna need a bigger boat" (check the video below this text for the scene).

The diorama is "meticulously designed,” and it comes together only after 1,497 pieces of plastic bricks are carefully placed together.

The LEGO Ideas Jaws set comprises, first and foremost, the Orca boat. Unspectacular in itself, it was made famous by the flick, so having a replica of one is a Jaws fan's dream. In LEGO form, it comes complete with a removable roof, an adjustable boom, and rigging.

Accessories such as a compass, fishing rod, harpoon, and spear are also thrown into the set, but most importantly the Orca also comes with a revolver and the infamous yellow barrels.

Then we've got the characters. LEGO replicated in mini figure form not only Martin Brody, but also marine biologist Matt Hooper and sailor Sam Quint. Topping the set off is, naturally, the mighty shark itself.

The diorama can be displayed on a brick-built seawater base to allow the scene to depict the shark attack on the Orca. The base features a printed tile showing the Brody line I mentioned above. Alternatively, the shark can be displayed on its own stand.

LEGO says Jaws will be available for insiders on August 3 and for the rest of us three days later. The asking price for the set is $149,99.

To mark the launch of the set the toymaker partnered with Universal Products & Experiences and released what it calls the "first ever summer brick-buster mini-film.” It's a blast, really, as it tells the story of Jaws in just 90 seconds – have a look for yourselves below (second video).
