Not much, we know, but after all, the man largely believed to have assassinated President Kennedy (we are a bit of conspiracy theorists ourselves), only used the 1962 Checker Marathon Taxicab for a brief moment, as he supposedly tried to escape after the shooting.
The aforementioned vehicle was sold on Saturday at an RM auction in Cresson, Texas. The buyer of the vehicle, Historic Auto Attractions, will put the car on display for all to see, alongside several other more or less famous vehicles.
The owner of the museum, Wayne Lensing, says he has a thing for cars with history attached (and even a thing for Kennedy-related items). So much so, that the 1962 Checker Marathon Taxicab will not be the only Oswald-related vehicle on display. According to The new York Times, the cab will sit alongside a 1962 Ford ambulance in which Oswald was taken to hospital after Jack Ruby put a tell-tale bullet in him, as well as the Cadillac the Secret Service used as a follow-vehicle. Unfortunately, the car in which Keendy was shot its only present by means of a replica.
“It’s some type of disease,” Lensing told the source. “I see these historical cars come up for auction and I just want them.”
“I’ve also got a scale-model Pan Am jet with a 20-foot wingspan,” he said. “We want to paint it up like Air Force One and make a diorama of the Love Field arrival, with wax figures of John and Jackie waving from the staircase.”
