Jaguar Land Rover North America has issued a recall for 1,995 sport utility vehicles produced for the 2024 model year from November 28, 2023 through February 26, 2024. As it happens, the incorrect specification of plastic was used to manufacture the oil filter housing.
The housing's material can – and will eventually – crack, allowing engine oil to leak onto hot components in the engine bay. Sadly, we have no prizes for those who guess what happens next. In addition to an engine compartment fire, oil that leaks onto the road surface poses a skid hazard to other vehicles, especially motorcycles.
J6P3-6714-AB is the part number of the oil filter housing, which is produced by a British firm dubbed PurFlux Filtration. According to documents filed by the British automaker with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, only vehicles equipped with the Ingenium straight-six turbo engine are affected.
The Ingenium family rolled out in 2014 with the Jaguar XE. It's a modular design with three displacements to its name, beginning with 1,499 cubic centimeters and three cylinders. The AJ150 is a gas-only affair, whereas the 2.0- and 3.0-liter units come in gasoline and diesel flavors.
Jaguar Land Rover started looking into this matter on April 3, 2024 due to a field report alleging a hairline crack in an oil filter housing. The subsequent investigation included extensive durability testing on housings produced with the incorrect specification of plastic. The results were reported on June 7, after which the Product Safety and Compliance took control of the matter.

The safety boffins couldn't rule out an unreasonable risk to safety presented by said concern, prompting the Recall Determination Committee to issue recall N908 or 24V-450 in the NHTSA's vernacular. To date, Jaguar Land Rover North America is aware of 7 incidents related to the recall condition, with said incidents reported between April 6, 2024 and May 31, 2024.
Rather than replacing the housing, dealers are required to have the housing, filter, and O-rings replaced at no charge to the customers. Owner notifications will be mailed on August 9, 2024. Running the 17-character VIN on the NHTSA's website or JLR's website is the easiest way to determine if a vehicle is indeed recalled.
The Land Rovers and Range Rovers in question were produced at the Solihull Vehicle Assembly Plant in the United Kingdom and the Nitra Vehicle Assembly Plant in Slovakia. The latter facility opened for business in October 2018. That's where JLR makes the Defender and Discovery come to life, with both sport utility vehicles underpinned by the D7 platform (a.k.a. the Premium Lightweight Architecture).
Solihull is the home of the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, and the Range Rover Velar, with the Velar also rocking D7/PLA underpinnings. The Range Rover twins, meanwhile, use the Modular Longitudinal Architecture. As opposed to the former, the MLA was developed with full electrification in mind. That said, the Range Rover Electric is due by the end of 2024.
