If you're the proud owner of a Lamborghini Urus S or Urus Performante, you should know that the Italian automaker has issued a recall concerning both models.
A document released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reveals that the super crossover has an issue with its hood. According to the safety watchdog, the hood latch striker could separate and fail, leading to an unlatched hood that may open or detach while driving. Lamborghini is unaware of any crashes or injuries related to this problem.
This safety campaign, conducted in the United States, involves 2,133 units of the Lamborghini Urus S and Urus Performante, of which an estimated two percent may have the aforementioned hood problem. The affected Urus Performante crossovers were assembled at the Sant'Agata Bolognese factory between December 3, 2021, and February 3, 2024. The Urus S high-riders were put together from June 27, 2022, to February 2, 2024.
The issue is blamed on the supplier, Bucci Composites Spa, and Lamborghini is aware of two warranty claims that revolved around the misalignment between the carbon fiber hood and the fenders. These were received last August, and since then, the automaker launched an investigation to find the cause of the issue. A third warranty claim was received earlier this year, and a couple of weeks ago, the Italian car marque decided to launch a voluntary recall.
Owners of the affected SUVs will hear from the Raging Bull soon, informing them of the recall. Subsequently, they will have to schedule an appointment with an authorized Lamborghini dealer, which will take care of the issue by repairing the hood and installing a striker support plate if necessary. As usual, all work will be performed free of charge, and owners who have solved this problem on their own will be reimbursed based on receipts.
Lamborghini is expected to contact owners of the Urus S or Urus Performante with a faulty hood in the coming weeks, as notification letters should be mailed on June 28, 2024. Concerned owners or those who have additional questions about this recall can reach out to the exotic car manufacturer's customer service at 1-866-681-6276 using the recall number L636-R.02.24. They can also contact the NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236.
Both the S and Performante versions of the Lamborghini Urus are part of the model's mid-cycle refresh. The former succeeds the pre-facelifted iteration, and the latter is a more track-focused version that has an identical oomph: 657 hp (666 ps/490 kW). Lamborghini's Urus family has recently grown to include the SE, which is a plug-in hybrid version that will help the brand transition to the inevitable electric future. The Urus SE has a combined 789 hp (800 ps/588 kW) and is one-tenth slower to 62 mph (100 kph) than the Performante.
