Lamborghini is reportedly working on a new model that will compete with Ferrari's FX70 but official information is yet to be disclosed. Still, if we are to trust the rumors, the upcoming model will be based on the Jota - also known as Murcielago's replacement, but will come as a separate model. The URUS will thus become the top of the line model, carsuk.net wrote.
As we said, the URUS will make use of several Jota components. For example, it will employ a Jota-like chassis but with several modifications that will result in improved performance figures. The Jota will feature a mixed aluminum and carbon fiber body while the URUS will only comprise carbon fiber, thus contributing to the final output. Aerodynamics will be improved as well, the source noted.
The Jota will be powered by a 6.0-liter V12 engine and according to the rumors, the same engine is to be fitted on the URUS as well. Rumors are pointing, however, to a 800 horsepower maximum output, while Jota will go somewhere around 700 hp. Translate this into acceleration performance and you get a 3.0 second 0-100 km/h sprint.
Preliminary figures are claiming that the URUS will be launched one year or so after the Jota, which is likely to see daylight in 2010. This means the URUS will most likely arrive in 2011 to be sold as model year 2012.
Still, official details or at least a confirmation of such a project is yet to be revealed. More info, however, should be revealed soon if Lamborghini is indeed working on a new model.
