As of August 2023, the good folks at Automobili Lamborghini are riding high. The Huracan is completely sold out, demand for the Revuelto is through the roof, and the Urus also sells like there's no tomorrow. Said commercial success allows Lamborghini to spend an incredible amount of money on research & development for the Raging Bull's fourth model line, namely a 2+2 grand tourer due to start deliveries sometime in 2028.
Don't expect a remake of the Espada, though. As per a recent report, the newcomer is a GT-inspired utility vehicle. Lamborghini published a teaser image of its first all-electric production model, which shows quite a few stylistic influences from the Estoque concept. In other words, think of this fellow as an Estoque crossover.

"Truly thrilling" is how the Raging Bull describes the sport utility vehicle in question, a hi-po crossover that will be revealed in the guise of a concept on August 18. The automaker from Sant'Agata Bolognese picked the Monterey Car Week for said unveiling, an event that will run from August 11 through August 20. Knowing the Italian marque, the Estoque-inspired crossover will go live during The Quail at the Quail Lodge & Golf Club.

Before going any further, it should be mentioned that the jacked-up Estoque thingy will be followed by the second-generation Urus in 2029. Already confirmed to go fully electric, the Urus is likely to continue selling better than all other models in the company's lineup.

Similar to the ground-up redesign of the Urus, the GT-like sport utility vehicle is expected to ride on a Volkswagen Group-developed platform. SSP is the culprit, with said acronym standing for Scalable Systems Platform. Think of it as the successor to the ID.4's MEB platform and Macan EV's PPE platform.

Reportedly due in 2026, the SSP was initially planned to handle 1,100 horsepower. Volkswagen Group big kahuna Oliver Blume subsequently confirmed a top end of 1,700 horsepower, which is quite a bit more than the Revuelto makes from its three-motor V12 plug-in powertrain.

That being said, where does the yet-unnamed GT crossover thingy slot in the lineup? From the standpoint of practicality, the answer is between the midship supercars and the Urus. If the yet-unnamed model gets a 2+2 seating layout, it will be even easier for non-car people to differentiate the newcomer from the Urus.

A single-motor powertrain is – without a shadow of a doubt – not going to happen. Two motors may not be enough either, more so if you remember that Tesla and Lucid offer 1,000-plus HP from three-motor setups. General Motors and Rivian offer up to four drive units in the GMC Hummer EV SUV and R1S Quad Motor.

Being a VAG brand, it's highly possible for the GT-inspired SUV to be twinned with models from Bentley and Porsche. Other than styling, how will the Volkswagen Group differentiate the Lambo from the Bentley and Porsche? It's hard to tell at the present moment, but given how different the Urus is from the Bentayga and Cayenne, there's no need to fret on this matter.
