Lamborghini was never a supercar producer that had a rich offer. Instead, the Sant’Agata Bolognese company focused on offering incredibly mad variations for its reduced model range.
However, it seems like, after a number of VW ownership years (Lambo belongs to the VW Group since 1998), this new model's gates are about to be fully opened.
After we reported that Lambo could be working on a new V8 entry-level model, which would be placed under the Gallardo (replacement), we must now tell you that the Raging Bull is currently considering bringing a four-door model to its range, as Bloomberg reports.
In an interview for the aforementioned source, Lamborghini Chief Executive Officer, Stephan Winkelmann, said that the carmaker considers that a four-door model would make sense for it, in terms of financial efficiency.
He added that the company has not developed a production plan for the model yet and that it hasn’t even taken a decision regarding this project.
Lamborghini moved the world back in 2008 when it unveiled the Estoque concept (the creation you see in the adjacent image), but we’ve received nothing but rumors related to a production version ever since.
If the four-door Lambo comes to life, we expect it to offer a lightweight construction. This is because Lamborghini has made clear its intentions of making its cars faster by improving their power to weight reduction through a serious diet. The company is currently focusing on carbon fiber developments to achieve this.
The new model would enter the recently-populated exclusive sedan-coupe segment. This means that it will compete against cars like the Porsche Panamera (we can’t really speak about cannibalizing here, the two vehicles target different types of clients), Aston Martin Rapide and the Maserati Quattroporte.
Our say: Have no fear! Lambo will not commit the mainstreaming sin. It will just offer automotive evolution for a larger number of mortals.
