In America, Hyundai and Kia easily dominated the Top 10 most stolen vehicle list two South Korean brands have had their fair share of challenges because of a social media trend and what could only be described as (major) oversight. Well, the United Kingdom division of Kia might want to mitigate the potential of the same happenings in the UK by putting some models from the lineup out of sight and into the shadows.
The infamous 'Kia Boys' phenomenon has reached epic proportions in the United States, where children caught in stolen cars easily caused multi-agency commotion, and the main problem is that some folks are still reluctant to get their vehicles fixed. That's a bad move – police now claim that juvenile delinquents have become awesomely "efficient" at hijacking cars, and they could need less than half a minute to drive away in an unpatched vehicle.
Well, all this is far away across the big pond (aka Atlantic Ocean), as far as Kia UK is concerned. While in America, police have started giving away steering wheel locks, the British division of Kia wants to move out of the shadows with the new Picanto, Stonic, and Sportage 'Shadow' special editions. The company decided the all-new Picanto urban car, as well as the popular Stonic and Sportage, deserve the treatment – the fresh 'Shadow' models add new styling and features to the already comprehensive standard equipment of the '3' grade models upon which they're based - each model offers exclusive interior colors and premium paint included as standard."
Starting with the little Picanto Shadow, the special edition celebrates the model's 20th anniversary in the United Kingdom with the 1.2-liter (77 hp) engine hooked to the manual or automated manual (AMT) gearboxes, an Adventurous Green interior trim ambiance, three premium paint options (Adventurous Green, Astro Grey or Midnight Black), and a starting price of £18,045 (manual) or £18,745 (AMT). That's $23k and almost $24, respectively.
Secondly, the Kia Stonic Shadow is the first special edition since 2022 and features Shadow-exclusive 17-inch wheels, Midnight Black, Astro Grey or the new Smokey Blue exterior shades, a blue interior pack with blue stitched seats, steering wheel, and blue trim elements on the center console, all for the price of £22,995 (manual) or £23,995 if the owner chooses the DCT dual-clutch transmission. Again, that's about $29k or $30,557 at the current exchange rate.
Thirdly, the Kia Sportage Shadow builds on the success of the popular compact crossover SUV (UK's third best-selling vehicle during the first quarter of the year) with the new Midnight Green interior pack, gloss black exterior trim for the window surrounds, and rear spoiler, dark chrome touches all around the body, including the skid plate, and three premium paints: Experience Green, Phantom Black, and Wolf Grey. The latter is a new shade that is exclusive to the Shadow special edition, which kicks off from £36,485 or $46,464.
