Kia’s love affair with the SEMA show continues into 2015. This time, we’re not getting any superhero-themed cars but a custom Koup that looks like the love child of a Local Motors Rally Fighter and a Volkswagen Beetle.
Taking inspiration from the world of lifted custom cars, this Kia Forte Koup is undoubtedly one of the most interesting concepts lined up for this year’s SEMA show in Las Vegas. It takes the idea of a low-slung coupe and flips it upside down with a set of mud tires and fender flares that look rough and ready.
Kia says the Mud Bogger is inspired by the “adventurous American South and the inexplicable joy of getting dirty on four wheels.” We know exactly the kind of South they’re talking about: big trucks, mud, ATVs and all sorts of “here, hold my beer” moments.
While the Forte Koup doesn’t have all-wheel drive, those 28-inch tires with white Forgiato wheels increase its curb appeal. There’s also a 4-inch lift kit for the suspension, although some of that sexy Korean body still had to be cut up to make room for the tires.
Even though they probably won’t stop all the mud from hitting the paint, those black fender flares are a nice addition. Rocker panels have also been installed while custom mirrors were mounted on the front fenders instead of the doors.
Matching those white Forgiato wheels, a bull bar and new grille join the custom headlights at the front of the car. If the driver ever gets stuck on a rocky outcrop in the middle of the night, they’ll be glad that they have a big set of LED auxiliary lights installed.
We don’t have photos of the interior, but those red Sparco Evo II are visible from a mile away and so is the powder coated roll cage. Kia says the carpeting has also been removed and replaced by a special Line-X protective coating that’s easy to wash.
