In between Justin Timberlake bringing a bit of "sexy back" with his ongoing world tour, he's also bringing back early 2000s vibes, when it seemed not a day could go by without at least one household celebrity being arrested for drunk driving.
Justin Timberlake was arrested in the very early hours of Tuesday morning (June 18) and arraigned the following day on a DWI (driving while intoxicated) charge and a string of assorted offenses, it has emerged. He spent the night in custody, sobering up and waiting for his court appearance for the arraignment. He's due next in court on July 26.
The arrest occurred in the posh Sag Harbor Village in the Hamptons, New York. Timberlake had left a hotel earlier that night and he was reported for erratic driving in the center of the village. A police cruiser took the call and followed his 2025 BMW SUV for confirmation of said erratic driving. Once obtained, the former boybander was pulled over.
According to the arrest report released by the Sag Harbor PD, aside from the observation that Timberlake was "operating his vehicle in an intoxicated condition," failing to stay in his lane, and blowing at least one stop sign, he was also displaying "bloodshot and glassy eyes" and was emanating a "strong odor of an alcoholic beverage." He was also "unable to divide attention," "had slowed speech, [and] he was unsteady afoot."
Despite his protestations that he'd only had "one martini" and was following friends home, Timberlake failed all sobriety field tests administered. He refused to submit to a blood test and had to be taken into custody, where he remained for the rest of the night.
He was released without bail the next day after being charged with DWI, failure to maintain his lane, and running a stop sign, and has since maintained silence on social media regarding his brush with the law.
His fans, not so much. Drink driving remains a leading cause of accidents on roads all over the world, right there next to distracted driving, and even his diehard fans believe some kind of accountability should be in order, especially for such an easily preventable infraction.
Reports that Timberlake's main concern during the arrest was something along the lines of "this is going to ruin [my] tour" are doing nothing in terms of putting out the fire on social media. Hitching a ride or even calling an Uber after a night out would have been the responsible thing to do, even his fans are saying. We're talking about a grown man in his 40s who's also a father of two, and not about a teen pop star who let fame get to his head – Justin Timberlake should've known better.
