The offroading cabriolet realm seems to welcome new fans every year and the latest adventure of the sort comes from the aftermarket realm. To be more precise, we're looking at Jon Olsson's Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4², which is currently in the midst of a transformation process that will see it become a convertible.
When the alpine skier first announced it would customise his G Wagon, we expected the offroader to receive a camouflage wrap and a bit of extra gear, as we've seen with other machines owned by Olsson.
Nevertheless, Lord Hans, as the athlete has baptized his factory-lifted Gelandewagen, has already lost its top. And you'll see the VIP aficionado doing a part of the chopping work himself in the piece of footage at the bottom of the page. As you can easily imagine, the blue-collar work we're talking wasn't exactly simple, with the lack of practice leading to quite a few giggles.
We'll keep an eye on the gearhead's social media channels and return with fresh details on Lord Hans' final form as soon as we get our keyboards on them. Who knows? Perhaps the G will be taken as far as George, Olsson's Rolls-Royce Ghost.
Meanwhile, we'll remind you that this is not the only G500 4×4² that's currently getting an open-air conversion. Instead, Salomondrin's G-Class is currently being transformed into a non-Maybach edition of the Landaulet.
The transformation is being handled by Los Angeles-based shop RDB LA, with the project still being massaged as you are reading this. And we've added a few Instagram photos at the bottom of the page, which show the current shape of the contraption.
Oh, and did we mention this incarnation of the Mercedes-Benz G500 4×4² was touched by Brabus? That's right, we're just as anxious as you are to meet the beast in the form that will adorn the said aficionado's garage.
