It seems that Chrysler’s Mopar division is letting its work trickle down to the European market, but without the original branding. A looks-oriented concept based on the Compass is going to debut at the Geneva Motor Show early next month.
Jeep Europe says the concept is “production-intent”, and besides the wheels and a change in paint, it’s pretty much the same as the 2012 Mopar Jeep Compass True North. This is a must have set of accesories needed if Jeep wants to really brake into a mature market with facelifted model that’s not even that well known.
But let’s see what the concept has to offer. First off, the Compass gets an all-new Black exterior treatment, black-gloss step pad and new 18-inch black-gloss aluminium wheels.
The glossy black accents cover the grille, bumpers and trim, fog light seriously and side mirrors. Even the headlights get the menacing treatment, so people will take you Jeep seriously.
“UConnect multimedia navigation and infotainment system with Bluetooth UConnect Phone and 9-speaker premium Boston Acoustics sound system deliver maximum comfort, information and entertainment on board.” Jeep’s European division says about the interior.
Under the bonnet is a 2.2-liter turbo diesel with 163 hp, mated to a Freedom Drive permanent all-wheel drive system. This probably means the Black Compass will be sold as a completely configured special edition, not a trim configuration. But only time will tell if there is even demand for it in Europe.
