Rumored for more than two years, Jaguar’s first SUV is scheduled to go on sale by 2015. Quoting inside sources familiar with the new project, Auto Express claims the unnamed SUV is now in its advanced design stages and will be on sale by 2015.
Expected to be called either Q-Type or XQ (both names have been registered with the European Union trademark database), the new SUV will rival the BMW X3 and the Audi Q5. Although earlier speculations were indicating toward a Range Rover Evoque-underpinned Jaguar, the new report says the SUV could borrow its chassis from Jaguar’s upcoming BMW 3 Series rival.
As far as styling is concerned, Auto Express says the new Jaguar is designed “to blur the lines between a low-slung saloon and a high-riding SUV”. Under the hood, the Q-Type/XQ could receive the Evoque’s 2.0-liter turbo and 2.2-liter diesel, both re-engineered for better fuel economy.
