It Really Doesn't Take Much to Make Your Cacti Green C8 E-Ray Cooler, Just 'Smoked' Wheels

The alloys come from Miami, Florida-based Vossen's vast portfolio; they are called S21-08 because they are part of the Forged Series 21 and cost from $2,400 apiece. That's not very expensive, right?
The C8 iteration of the legendary Chevrolet Corvette was first announced in April 2019 as the very first rear mid-engine model since the model's introduction in 1953. The coupe officially debuted during the summer of 2019, and the convertible was sent to the Kennedy Space Center in October that year to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission.

They were followed by the racing version – C8.R – that same month, and after a few setbacks, the official production kicked off in February 2020. The first version that was introduced, of course, was the base C8 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, complete with the Z51 performance package and up to 495 horsepower thanks to the newest version of the LS-based GM small-block engine, now called LT2.

The naturally aspirated mill has 490 hp and 465 lb-ft (630 Nm) of torque, but the optional NPP sport exhaust system augments total power to 495 hp and 470 lb-ft (637 Nm) of torque for a blistering zero to 60 mph (96 kph) acceleration in 2.9 seconds. That was a great start, for sure. But it was just the beginning as more Corvette versions came along for the ride. The second one to arrive was the homologation special for the 2023 model year – in October 2021, Chevrolet announced the latest Z06 variant.

It also has three grades, but the engine switched to a fresh naturally aspirated 5.5-liter V8 dubbed LT6, which has a flat-plane crank, and with 670 hp and 460 lb-ft or 624 Nm, it became the most powerful naturally aspirated production V8 – surpassing the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series' M159 mill. The Z06 has the same engine as the C8.R, by the way, and of course, there's a Z07 Performance Package for those wanting a track experience unlike any other. Claiming a 10.6-second quarter-mile time for the Z06 model when equipped with the Z07 package, this version is also good for 200 mph (320 kph) top speeds. Was that enough? Not at all, of course.

Now comes another absolute novelty. On January 17, 2023, GM, Chevrolet, and Team Corvette announced the E-Ray performance hybrid Corvette model – which most likely takes the place of the Grand Sport version of the C7 iteration. It's very close to the Z06 in terms of looks, but the 6.2-liter LT2, dual-clutch transmission, and performance exhaust were shared with the C8 Stingray. Additionally, the electrification components are all brand-new – this is the quickest Corvette to date (although it has 655 hp, less than a Z06), the first model with all-wheel drive, and also Chevy's first performance hybrid car.

With all-weather capabilities and electrification under the hood, it's pretty obvious that the E-Ray has made some Corvette fans happy. In fact, the customers were so giddy about the Stingray, Z06, and E-Ray that they helped Chevrolet post the best first-half Corvette sales since H1 of 2015! There were almost 18k C8s delivered after the first six months of 2024 – and of them, some were also of the $104,900 E-Ray variety, for sure. That's $106,595 with the destination charge for the coupe and no less than $113,595 for the convertible – and the E-Ray is just as like the Stingray and Z06, a blank canvas to make it your own.

For example, someone made the E-Ray Convertible dress up in Cacti Green, and when that wasn't enough, they also asked the imaginative realm of the aftermarket sector to stand up with something cool. Thanks to Racing Sport Concepts, it wasn't hard to make the C8 even cooler than OEM – a bit of carbon fiber here and there (exposed, of course) along with Vossen's Forged S21-08 alloy wheels dressed in Marbled Midnight Smoke. And voila, that was all – and the sports car looks fantastic even when rolling around at low speed. Vossen's wheels seem to have the magical power of turning just about any ride into a great showcase that can stand out in any crowd.

There's no need to believe us, as there's a second post embedded below that depicts a completely different type of vehicle – the modern Ford Bronco off-road mid-size SUV. Two examples of the breed – which is selling slower this year (-14.4% to a little over 50k compared to over 77k Jeep Wranglers) – were asked to showcase their new shoes. Of course, those are Ford Bronco Raptors, hence the tall ride and quirky fender flares. However, it seems that the Vossen HFX-1 alloy wheels in silver or bronze fit them like a charm – and in any situation.
