A Chevrolet Camaro dangling from the ninth floor of a building is not something that you get to see every day. However, the residents of Charlotte, North Carolina, woke up to the heart-stopping sight.
What is up there? Is it a car? How in the world did it get there? Those must have been the questions on the lips of all those who saw the front end of a black Chevrolet Camaro dangling from the ninth floor of a parking deck. The Charlotte Fire Department arrived at the scene in just a few minutes after the call that informed them the car could drop at any time.

They stopped traffic and secured the area to avoid injuries. They also set up a plan to stabilize the vehicle and make sure it would not crash onto the pavement nine floors down. The Chevrolet was unoccupied when they arrived at the scene.

Forty-one minutes later, the car was back in the parking lot, front end included. According to the authorities, the Camaro had been left in neutral as the driver probably forgot to engage the parking brake, and rolled into the edge of the parking lot floor, crashing through the wall of the building.

The photos uploaded to Facebook by the Charlotte Police Department show the nose poking through the wall. The radiator grille seems to have been affected by the impact and the headlight on the left side seems broken. Authorities informed that there was no structural damage to the building.

The car that got the Charlotte authorities alerted was a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. That translates to a V8 engine pumping out 650 horsepower (659 metric horsepower) and 650 pound-feet (881 Newton meters) of torque. Those are managed by either a ten-speed automatic gearbox or a six-speed manual. There is no information on which this Camaro dangling from the parking deck was equipped with.

However, the Camaro ZL1 can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and run the quarter mile in 11.3 seconds on its way to a top speed of 195 mph (314 kph). We can't possibly tell, though, how fast it would have come crashing down if the authorities did not save the day.

A Ford Mustang ended up dangling from a building earlier this year

It must be a muscle car thing. In 2024, they started early. Back in January, we reported about a V8-powered Ford Mustang GT crashing into a building on Shelby Street in Indianapolis, which prompted a gazillion jokes.

"If he wanted a Shelby, he should have just said so," was one of them. "That's not a shortcut," someone warned the driver. But it was already too late.

The driver reportedly lost control in a corner, their car went airborne and flew straight into the construction. His Mustang, not a Shelby, though, went halfway through the wall.

The driver suffered minor injuries and was transported to the nearest hospital as a precaution, but their ego must have been seriously hurt.

The Ford Mustang and the Chevrolet Camaro were blacklisted this past March by the organizers of the Coffee and Cars events. The two were permanently banned from the car meets in the Houston, Texas area, along with the Dodge Chargers and Challengers. However, the owners of classic models are welcome to the events.
