Red Bull Racing’s third F1 title in a row is a truly astonishing feat, and being so pleased with it, they have extended their collaboration with Infiniti for another four years. Also, the name of the team will change as of next season, with Infiniti becoming a partner rather than a sponsor - it will be called Infiniti Red Bull Racing.
Infiniti will be providing technical know-how, for the development of the team’s KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System), and an even more exciting prospect, while jointly working on developing a high-performance road car. According to Simon Sporoule, Infiniti’s communications boss, who spoke to autocar.co.uk at the 2012 Lost Angeles International Auto Show, “it's on the table to do a proper high-performance edition of one of our cars, with the F1 team taking technical leadership on the project."
He added: "At the moment it is nothing more than a discussion, but it's clear that the team would like to use its expertise in areas beyond F1, and we'd like to do something performance wise with them. The opportunity is there for the future now we have a long-term partnership and established working relationship in place." So, it would not be an all-new car, but rather a more sporty development of one of Infiniti’s current offerings.
