Now that summer is officially upon us, a lot of people want to enjoy long trips on the open roads – potentially with the wind blowing in their hair. The best option to achieve that is, of course, a convertible machine.
But not everyone loves to go with an open top – and we can relate to that because our irresponsible actions have turned Earth into a baking oven during much of the year. It's not going to be too cool (pun intended) to get sunburns while driving your convertible or roadster. However, it's easy to keep the lid on, right?

Well, not every model allows that. For example, Mercedes-AMG recently debuted the first example of the Mythos series, a PureSpeed Concept that only has an F1 halo bar to ensure occupant protection from anything coming from above. It will be an interesting rival for the Ferrari Monza SP2, McLaren Elva, or Aston Martin V12 Speedster if the company gets it into production, for sure.

However, the imaginative realm of digital car content creators had other plans with it. More precisely, this virtual artist, better known as Theottle on social media, has recently resorted to CGI slicing and dicing the prototype to make it back into a coupe like the Mercedes-AMG GT. It sounds counterintuitive, for sure, as it defeats the initial purpose of the OEM.

But that hasn't stopped the pixel master from doubling down on the idea with a coupe transformation of the BMW Concept Skytop next. Essentially a Targa top one-off probably based on the BMW M4 Convertible, this prototype presented earlier this year at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este might even go into production if around 25 diehard BMW customers are willing to pony up the price of such a collectible.

Alas, this CGI expert doesn't care about any of that and instead just wanted to put the lid back on. Well, he did just that in the behind-the-scenes making-of video embedded below, although we really don't see the purpose of that. In fact, if you look closely at the end result, especially the rear three-quarters POV, it shows that if you take away the white-blue badge at the rear, it would result in a completely generic two-door coupe that could even be made in China.

Anyway, as far as BMW is concerned, they're as busy as it gets with the Bavarian automaker showing us recently the Skytop, the complete model revisions for the summer of 2024 in crucial regions like Europe and America, the refreshed 3 Series and M3, the bonkers M4 GT3 Evo race car, as well as the quirky BMW 1 Series complete with a feisty 312-hp M135 flagship. So, most likely, a production Skytop with a coupe body is not exactly at the top of their to-do list, right?
