One of the icons of the performance vehicles is set to make a comeback: the original AC Cobra will return!
The U.S. company ICONIC Motors promises that it will bring the modern time incarnation of the Cobra to life next year. The vehicle was previewed at the 2008 Amelia Island Concours, but the company hasn’t been present in the spotlights ever since.
However, it seems that the automotive producer hasn’t been wasting time. ICONIC has teamed-up with AC Cars, officially renaming the car AC Roadster. The hypervehicle’s release date has been set for 2011 with the company currently taking orders.
But let’s see what ICONIC motors promises to offer us (please note that all the facts & figures are based on the company’s press release, they are not verified).
The entire 1,025 kg package is built round a monstrous engine. We are talking about a 6.9 liter V8 powerplant delivering 800 hp (of course, to the rear axle). The unit was created by a former NASCAR engine designer.
The car uses a steel tubular chassis that is dressed in a carbon fiber body. The vehicle is connected to the road via a sophisticated asymmetrical aluminum control arms and coil-over shock absorbers. As for the braking power, this is provided by a Brembo system that uses carbon-ceramic rotors and has been created especially for the car.
The results? The vehicle should leave the zero to sixty sprint behind in under three seconds and offer a top speed of 210 mph (338 km/h). The car deals with the quarter mile in less than nine seconds.
ICONIC motors announced that it will build 100 units if the AC Roadster, with each car retailing for $375,000.
Our Say: Should this Cobra be able to bite, many Euro rivals will be killed.
