Hyundai has revealed these rather beautiful Tucson and Santa Fe ‘30’ Special Editions, celebrating the brand’s 30th anniversary in Australia. They come fully equipped with all the bells and whistles, including the first V6 available on the Santa Fe there in many years.
Production will be strictly limited to 300 examples of each model. Even though that's less than some Ferraris, we don't think these SUVs have a chance of becoming collectors' items. But they look classy in their blue metallic paint with black accents.
For the smallest of the two, the 2016 Tucson "30" Special Edition, prices start at $37,750 plus Australia's on-road taxes. Under the hood is a 1.6-liter turbo GDI engine that's good for 130 kW (175 hp) and 265 Nm (195 lb-ft) of torque. All that is sent to the wheels via an AWD diff and a seven-speed twin clutch transmission.
So you pay about AUD$4,000 more than normal and get things like the 19-inch black Rays alloy wheels, matte-grey side steps, and quad exhaust tips. Yes, it's got quads, not just twins like it would normally. On top of that, they also sprinkled all the convenience features possible, including a rear-view camera, rear parking sensors, LED daytime running lights (DRLs), automatic headlights, fog lights, navigation, full leather seats and electric folding mirrors.
The Sante Fe "30" shares the same ‘Mineral Blue paint and badging. However, the major highlight of this special edition is the debut of Hyundai’s 3.3-liter MPi V6 in Australia. Until now, you could only buy it with a 2.4-liter, but the larger engine raises the performance benchmark to 199 kW (267 hp) and 318 Nm (234 lb-ft) of torque. The only downside is that they've made it front-wheel drive only to fit a six-speed automatic (AWD would get a manual).
Added features compared to the grade below include chrome door handles, tinted glass, 19-inch dark grey alloys and the "30" badging. Inside, it's got a full leather cabin, dual-zone climate control, and a cooled glovebox. All that can be yours for AUD$40,790.
