Although the new Hyundai i20 supermini got revealed some two months ago over the Internet, here it is once again, shining under the Paris Motor Show 2014 lights in flesh and bone.
Compared to the plasticky, dull and engine-choice-limited outgoing version, the new Hyundai i20 steps on to a new standard. Being designed and developed in Europe, the new model has been made to pose a real threat to the Ford Fiesta, VW Polo, Renault Clio and Opel Corsa.
It comes with more refined lines, wearing almost a floating-roof design, a longer wheelbase, a panoramic sunroof, integrated rear-view camera, front and rear LED lights, a bolder front end determined by a thin horizontal air intake and a low upright chrome-framed hexagonal grille as well as redesigned foglights surroundings.
The new i20 brags about offering the biggest passenger space in the class now, which should also be emphasized by that large sunroof that can be both tilted and opened to let more light and air come in.
We have a hunch it will be offered with the same three- and four-cylinder engine choices, diesel and gasoline, but with some green enhancements. The new Kappa 1-liter T-GDI which should find its place under the i20's hood is rated at 120 PS and 172 Nm of torque.
Even so, the new i20 appears to be heading the right way and starting to feel more like a grown-up car, just like the new i30 does now.
