Hyundai is going strong in Europe. The car that got VW’s bosses worried is doing well, as sales of the C-segment i30 (sold as Elantra GT in America) have passed 500,000 in Europe. This is impressive considering the first-generation model went on sale in 2007. This success has been the driving force behind the model’s global achievements, which also surpassed 1 million sales recently.
“Since launch in 2007, the i30 has become the centre of gravity for our brand in Europe. It was our first car to de designed and made here, offering customers high quality, low emissions and great value – characteristics now synonymous with the Hyundai brand,” says Allan Rushforth, Senior Vice President and COO of Hyundai Motor Europe.
The New Generation i30, along with the majority of the original i30, is produced at Hyundai’s manufacturing facility in Nošovice, Czech Republic, which opened in 2008. To date, the factory has produced more than half a million units of i30, which are exported to 60 destinations in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Australasia, the Caribbean and the USA, where it’s sold as the 2013 Elantra GT and powered by a 1.8-liter 150 PS engine.
