Hybrid Battery System Analyzer Introduced by Midtronics

One of the first hybrid battery pack analyzer on the market was introduced yesterday by battery testing and management products manufacturer Midtronics, opening the doors for a do-it-your-self battery management system.

Called HYB Hybrid Battery System Analyzer, the tool will allow technicians to test and diagnose a battery pack of a hybrid car while driving. HYB "talks" with the car's on-board diagnostic system via a wireless convergence module. It reads the battery cell, block and pack parameters, giving the one doing the testing a better understanding of the battery's health.

"Our new HYB Hybrid Battery System Analyzer represents a major step for Midtronics in the electric and hybrid vehicle diagnostic arena," Mike Troy, executive vice president and general manager, Transportation Division at Midtronics said in a statement.

"While the future service needs and opportunities are still unclear for the growing electric and Hybrid vehicle markets, we are working closely with the industry to develop solutions as the needs arise."

Should the system fins the battery to be weak, it would signal the driver to replace the battery pack. Even more, HYB can read and reset diagnostic codes.

"As the vehicle market continues its rapid evolution, we continue to advance our capabilities and technology investments," Troy added.

"Midtronics research and development is focused on technologies for testing and charging advanced lead-acid, NiMH, and Li-ion batteries and packs as well as the service technologies required for testing Hybrid and electric vehicles."
