I have amassed almost 300 1/64th-scale cars in my collection, but I realize most of them are basic items you can get for $10 or less. I'm happy to own a few special castings from various manufacturers, but even those are worth less than $100 each.
That begs the question: at what point does a model car collection become impressive? Is it all just about the numbers? I appreciate and become enthusiastic even when seeing displays that aren't crazy expensive. But of course, I'd love a line-up of 1/18th-scale cars from manufacturers like Autoart, Spark, and Ignition Model. Out of the three, the latter has slowly crept into my mind for a few years now.

And I finally have one at home, although I borrowed it from a friend for a photo shoot. I'll show it to you in a story soon, and I think I might have to order one at some point in this life. I just received word that a new pre-order campaign has started at Ignition Model. This particular area of their website now shows 86 products, although some of them (like the Pandem FC RX-7) have sold out already.

I must say that within 60 seconds of window-shopping, I "spent" over $3,000 choosing the coolest cars there. At this point in life, I'd rather spend that much on a brand-new turbo for my real car. But I'm sure plenty of collectors out there can spend that kind of cash monthly without a headache.

One of the cars the people at Ignition Model are focusing on with this new pre-order is the Top Secret Fairlady Z (RZ34). It's a 1/18th-scale replica of the real thing built by Smokey Nagata's company in Japan. It looks stunning in the presentation photos, and it's no wonder it has a $315 price tag. Like most new additions, you'll have to wait until Q4 to take delivery.

But for some of you, it could easily become the centerpiece of your collection. The RWB 997 in silver is even more exciting, and the must-have list keeps getting longer as you look at the website. How about a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution III GSR selection, available in three different colors? The purple Fairlady Z (Z32) is an option if you don't care about the newer model.

And I love that this company came up with the idea of selling you a model car with an engine next to it. That adds another $45 to the cost, making the whole package much more exciting. I'd buy the FEED Afflux GT3 FD3s in a heartbeat if I didn't prioritize purchasing a new bucket seat for my RX-7.

And don't even get me started on the GT-Rs, Integras, and RE-Amemiya RX-8s. All these items make me think about what a friend recently told me: "There's always space on the market for a company that focuses on quality over quantity." That being said, which Ignition Model casting would you go for first?
