The new iDrive is definitely a game changer. When BMW's on-board entertainment system first came out, it was horrible. A lot of people complained about it and they were right.
Today, the iDrive system is one of the best, if not the best in the premium segment. Its design was improved and so were the functions. Unlike the first variants, the new one accepts a wide variety of voice commands, to keep you focused on the road at all times.
We're going to do a series of DIY guides on how to best use your iDrive. Today we're telling you about how to use the display control function using a voice command.
To give the car any kind of command, first you have to press the speech button on the steering wheel (it's the one with the face on it). Then, to split the navigation screen, for example, you just have to say "Split Screen On" and the system will divide the screen into a navigation system and an infotainment display.
To reverse the process, simply press the speech button again and say "Split Screen Off". It might seem like an easy process but if you don't know the commands you could spend minutes trying to get it to work. Good luck!
