I haven't bought a Premium Hot Wheels collectible in quite some time. Instead, I forgot my pledge to avoid purchasing more Mainline cars. But there's always time to change.
In the next few days, I'll commit to a full day of unboxing and taking photos and videos of all the Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars I found this year. It may be a fun little experiment, as I'm considering doing more similar reviews. I have a whole list of collectibles that I want to add to my collection.

And I'm sure that with each Hot Wheels Car Culture or Boulevard list, that list will only get longer. Today, it's time to look at Mix 3 of Boulevard for 2024. We have seen 100 items in the series since its inception in 2020, and now we have five more cars to hunt for once they arrive in stores.

1955 Plymouth Savoy

The 1955 Plymouth Savoy is a brand-new casting for Mattel's Hot Wheels line-up. Interestingly enough, Brendon Vetuskey designed it. You may be familiar with his work if you're a Red Line Club fan, as he created castings like the Porsche 959, the 1993 Ford Mustang Cobra R, and the 1972 Skyline H/T 2000GT-R, to name just a few.

Talking about Plymouth cars, I can name a few of my favorite ones, including the '70 Plymouth Duster Funny Car, the 1970 Plymouth Superbird, and the 1969 Plymouth Hemi GTX. The best part about this new casting is that it's a tiny replica of a real car that Alex Costa and Lucky Tailor built.

Seeing it instantly reminded me of the "Rotsun" Custom '71 Datsun 240Z, and I think collectors will be all over it at launch. I just wonder how much time we'll have to wait until Mattel unveils the second iteration for it, if ever.

'99 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning

If you visit Hot Wheels collectors groups on various platforms like Facebook or Reddit, you'll know people often complain about the Fast & Furious line-up Mattel opted for. We are all waiting for the Veilside RX-7, but instead, we have to deal with secondary movie cars that most of us can't even remember.

While Brian's Ford truck didn't play a huge role in the first film, it's still a memorable machine. And I always tell myself I should pick one up, as that first installment greatly impacted me over 20 years ago. Mark Jones designed this casting for its 2020 debut, and we have had four iterations thus far.

It's not hard to understand why three featured a Bright Red finish, but I'm happy the designers decided it was finally time to move on. Please excuse me for using this word, but the F-150 SVT Lightning looks "Gangster" in this shade of purple with the White Line, black Real Riders 5 Spoke Modern wheels. It's the kind of truck that could make me forget all about trying to own a Mazda REPU someday.

Porsche 964

The Porsche 964 is the second and final Mark Jones-designed casting in the new Boulevard set. I'm a huge fan of most Porsche castings, whether Hot Wheels or Matchbox.

Since its debut in the 2016 Car Culture: Track Day mix, the diecast manufacturer has developed four variations, one of which will easily cost over $100 on eBay (Salon de Mexico edition). Neither one particularly excited me, except perhaps for the First Edition. But whoever decided on the color combo for this recent variation should receive an award!

Having a light blue body with white Real Riders Aero wheels sounds like a perfect choice for this vehicle, and I'd paint mine just like this if I had one. It may have even taken the spotlight for this set if not for the last item in it, but more about that in a minute.

'86 Ford Thunderbird Pro Stock

You're looking at the third and final American car in this set, and you'll surely remember the '86 Ford Thunderbird Pro Stock. It was part of the Ultra Hots set earlier this year, alongside the '78 Porsche 935-78 and the '85 Honda City Turbo II.

This casting has made a strong comeback recently, with three different iterations between 2023 and 2024. And all these came after a 10-year-long hiatus.

I'm genuinely happy that Mattel decided to forego the hideous Black Wall wheels and that the latest version is the first to feature Real Riders wheels. This casting may still have a chance to become a true classic if it keeps getting releases like this one.

'24 Honda Civic Type-R

Since I test-drove the 2024 Mazda MX-5, I haven't stopped thinking about the 2024 Honda Civic Type-R. I haven't been in a Type R since the FN2 many years ago, so I'm unfamiliar with how the new generation feels with a turbo under the hood.

Last year, Mattel unveiled a Spoon Honda Civic EG in the Car Culture: Modern Classics set. And I'm sure many of us Honda enthusiasts have hoped to see another yellow and blue machine from Hot Wheels. And here it is! Ronald Wong designed the casting, and you may remember his RLC-exclusive '21 Pagani Huayra R or the Fast & Furious Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.8.

If anyone at Mattel is paying attention, can we please get the Honda Civic Mugen RR next? That would look great in the Car Culture 2-Pack set next to another variation of the '24 model.
