It must be great for an auto maker, especially for a medium-sized one, to manage and impress and be recognized for its merits. And, if that recognition comes year after year, for the past 11 years now, the feeling of accomplishment must be even greater.
This is what is happening right now to Honda, the Japanese manufacturer who, for the aforementioned period of time, keeps at the top of the Greenest Vehicles list compiled by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE).
This year, no less than five models produced by the Japanese have been selected as among the greenest in their class. The natural gas-powered Civic GX earning the title of America's greenest vehicle for the eighth time (also bringing the title to Honda for the 11th time in a row), with Civic Hybrid and Insight also getting honored in the list. The other two models picked by ACEEE this year were the CR-Z Sport Hybrid coupe and Odyssey.
"The highest level of recognition from ACEEE further illustrates Honda's long standing commitment to developing vehicles that feature both outstanding fuel economy and low emissions," said John Mendel, executive vice president of American Honda.
"Honda is honored to have its vehicles recognized as among the 'greenest' by an organization dedicated exclusively to environmental efficiency and sustainability."
Earlier this week, the Japanese have pulled the wraps off a new and even greener version of the Civic, which is capable of reaching fuel economy figures of more than 40 mpg on the highway (for the HF and Hybrid versions).
