Hispano-Suiza, the Spanish automotive company with a partially Swiss name, was founded in 1904. With 120 years of legacy behind it, involving much more than just cars, they now have a new EV model.
The brand was established in 1904 by Marc Birkigt and Damian Mateu – over the years, it has produced luxury cars, aircraft engines, trucks, and even weapons. However, it hasn't done much of anything in modern times as far as cars are concerned, instead focusing on the aerospace industry – so they decided to change the pace with the revival of the automotive arm and the introduction of the all-electric Hispano Suize Carmen at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.

Now, the company marks its 120th anniversary with the introduction of the Sagrera, the third hypercar version in the newly minted Carmen family. Naturally, this new variant comes with some design changes, such as the massive stork-wing-shaped rear spoiler, as well as updated interiors. Also, thanks to a second-generation 103-kWh battery pack, the Sagrera is tasked with deploying a maximum driving range of up to 480 km or 298 miles on the WLTP standard.

The new Hispano Suiza Sagrera – by the way, the name is a reference to La Sagrera, a neighborhood in Hispano Suiza's hometown of Barcelona, Spain – was presented officially at Finca Mas Solers, a beautiful event venue near the city, and is supposedly "a project with a lot of soul" according to Miguel Suqué, President of Hispano Suiza, the great-grandson of Damian Mateu.

Meanwhile, the chief executive, Sergio Martinez Campos, said, "With the Sagrera, we are consolidating in style the Carmen range that was born in 2019. This is the year of acceleration in which we are going to conquer key markets for us, such as the United States; we will complete the European homologation, and, of course, it is a year to celebrate our legacy." So, there you go; the Hispano Suiza Carmen range will soon become available in America, too.

The Hispano Suiza Carmen Sagrera has second-generation batteries forming the 103-kWh pack, and they're proprietary - "this technology has been developed and manufactured 100% at the Hispano Suiza facilities in Montmelo, Barcelona," explained the brand's Technical Director Juan Fernandez. Now, it weighs 612 kg (1,349 pounds), and the Sagrera has a curb weight of 1,875 kilograms (4,134 pounds) after the increase from 80 to 103 kWh.

The new driving range is raised by around 100 km, and the EV hypercar also features a better cooling system and redesigned front vents on the hood to improve functionality and styling. The rear also underwent major changes, including a new stork-style large spoiler, among other modifications. Inside, the center console and infotainment system are also new, along with Alcantara with black and red leather details. Meanwhile, on the outside, the Carmen Sagrera was presented in a Cava Gold livery, a first-ever matte finish.

This EV hypercar has four axial-flux permanent magnet motors good for 275 hp each, connected left and right in series, and producing a combined output of 820 kW or 1,100 horsepower, which is good for a sprint to 100 kph (or 62 mph) in just 2.6 seconds. Following the world premiere at home in Spain, the new Hispano Suiza Carmen Sagrera will journey to the United Kingdom for its live dynamic introduction in front of the massive crowds set to gather at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the middle of July.
