Heidfleld Writes Emotional Message to Kubica After Sepang Podium

Robert Kubica might miss all the F1 action this year, as he is in rehab following his rally accident in early February, but the Polish driver is certainly keeping himself updated with everything that's going on in the series on TV.

And his former BMW teammate and current replacer at Renault, Nick Heidfeld, knows that all too well, which is why he dedicated his first podium of 2011 to the Pole. Apart from making his appearance in the Malaysian Grand Prix wearing Kubica's “RK” logo and an image of the Polish flag on his helmet, Heidfeld wrote an emotional message to his former teammate through an exclusive note published by the Bild newspaper.

I wanted you to see that I'm thinking of you,” wrote Heidfeld in the note, after scoring Renault's second consecutive podium this season. “I wanted the fans to know that you're a part of formula one and this team.

I often thought of you during the race,” he continued. “When I crossed the finish line, only the happy emotions entered my head. I knew you were thinking “What a great car Lotus-Renault have this year. I will return as soon as possible and drive it”. For this I hope you make good progress with the rehab. Get well soon!

Two weeks back, in Australia, the 33-year old German had began the season in disappointing fashion, failing to make it past the Q1 and crossing the finish line outside the points, one lap down to winner Sebastian Vettel. At Sepang however, Heidfeld enjoyed a great start that got him from 6th to 2nd after only two corners, after which he benefited from some race incidents in front of him later in the running to secure 3rd place.
