When you have two excellent tiny house designs, it might be a good idea to combine them in order to create something even better. That's what folks at Tiny Topanga did: they took the famous Hazel model by Shaye's Tiny Homes (their trusted Kiwi partner) and their own Sophie design and turned them into a new cool tiny named Hazie.
The Hazie borrowed Hazel's kitchen and lounge, as well as Sohie's bathroom and second bedroom. The result is an ultra-modern, spacious home on wheels with a generous sprinkle of functionality. In addition to the generous accommodation, Hazie offers a versatile workspace built-in within the modified second bedroom and an extra-large bathroom equipped to double as a laundry. Combine that with the classic Hazel lounge and the Kiwi-style kitchen with a breakfast bar, and you will get the ultimate tiny house configuration.

None of this would have been possible without Hazie's generous length. This house on wheels sits on a 32-foot-long (9.7 meters) and 8.5-foot-wide (2.5 meters) trailer, giving it enough space to incorporate decent-sized living areas and abundant storage solutions throughout. The dual loft bedrooms, central lounge underneath the upstairs walkway, and open-concept kitchen are all part of the classic Shaye's recipe: you'll find tiny house builders all over the world that have partnered up with this New Zealand-based company for its excellent designs.

What was already great about the Hazel model became even better by adding a larger bathroom/laundry and by modifying one of the lofts so that it could be used both as a bedroom and a comfy, practical home office. All of this translates to greater day-to-day functionality for contemporary families or couples while staying within the size restrictions of a transportable dwelling.

Standard lofts found in compact tiny homes hardly meet the comfort criteria for long-term residence. This beefed-up version brings all the benefits of traditional bedrooms to the classic dual-loft configuration. First, access is super easy and safe thanks to a single staircase leading up to the walkway that connects both rooms; next, the privacy factor is fully taken care of: each room is fully enclosed and has its own separate door; with this particular layout, the rooms are both private and connected, which is great for families with young children.

The walkway is fitted with a full-size slated barrier for added safety, which is another plus. An oversized window was also ingeniously added to this area; it brings in more natural light and a beautiful outside view.

Both rooms are also bathed in natural light and properly ventilated, with large windows on both sides. They're big enough to fit comfy beds with walk-around space for more comfort, and they each have built-in furniture for easy-to-reach storage. The main bedroom features a full-size set of closets and cabinets, plus additional storage at the top of the bed.

The second bedroom also comes with excellent storage, but was modified to include a dedicated office setup. One of the drawers cleverly turns into a desk for the laptop, while several other drawers provide perfect storage for all the other office items. All of this was integrated in a way that doesn't require extra space and doesn't interfere with the overall layout of the room. It's just as cozy as the main bedroom but with the added versatility of a workspace.

Hazie's bathroom was also designed to integrate laundry functionality. It's bigger than a typical tiny home bathroom, and it comes with a dedicated area for the washing machine and dryer. Alternatively, that area could also house the washing machine and a special linen cabinet. What we love about this modified bathroom is the attention to proper ventilation. Too often, these small bathrooms only come with a minuscule window. This one has two big windows and a third smaller one right in the shower cabin.

One of the advantages of this popular layout is the special placement of the lounge. It looks more like a living room nook with enough privacy for true relaxation while staying connected to the outside views. The extra-long Hazie was also designed with two entries; a smaller door is closer to the bathroom and the staircase, while the main entry is a wider, accordion-style door (specifically designed for the Hazie).

Both the kitchen and lounge provide additional hidden storage that helps keep this entire open-concept area clutter-free, with everything neatly tucked away. Large windows throughout keep the area wide open and connected to the outdoors.

The kitchen is big enough to incorporate a full-size stove/oven and a fridge. The breakfast bar adds versatility, and the mobile unit on wheels in the lounge sits next to the sofa. With its flawless configuration and massive storage, Hazie is the perfect choice for a modern family or a work-from-home couple.
