H1 2024 Sales Report: Ford F-Series Remains America's Favorite Large Truck

Once again, the Ford Motor Company waxes lyrical about F-Series delivery figures. More specifically, the Dearborn-based automaker claims that F-Series remains the best-selling truck in the United States, which is correct.
From January 1 through June 30, the ubiquitous truck line moved 352,406 units, representing a contraction of -8.0% over the 382,893 deliveries from the first six months of 2023. Of those 352,406 pickup trucks, the F-150 Lightning accounted for 15,645 units. However, the zero-emission truck doesn't hold a candle to the F-150 PowerBoost. Gifted with a hybrid-assisted V6, the PowerBoost sold 33,674 units in H1 2024.

Over at General Motors, the Detroit-based automaker's Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra lines posted gains of 4.8% and 4.0% from the first half of 2023. The grand total for the Silverado is 281,099 trucks, while Sierra deliveries are listed as 148,785 by General Motors in the sales release for Q2 2024. In other words, General Motors sold more full-size trucks than crosstown rival Ford Motor Company.

GM's total for the Silverado comprises the light-, heavy-, and medium-duty lines, plus the Silverado EV. In case you were wondering, the latter moved 3,257 units in these six months. GMC Hummer EV combined deliveries for the pickup and sport utility vehicle were 4,597 for the six-month period, meaning that Detroit's largest automaker still has plenty of catching up to do.

Ram is dead last again, with the P/U series falling a simply ridiculous -20% from the first half of last year. To the point, 179,526 versus 223,049 deliveries. Although Stellantis may have been hindered by the changeover to the 2025 model year, that's not the underlying reason for this decline. Think about it this way: $40,275 for the most work-oriented Ram 1500 compared to $36,965 for the F-150 and $36,800 for the Silverado 1500. Would you consider the non-V8 truck, which dropped the 5.7-liter HEMI in favor of a twin-turbo I6 referred to as Hurricane?

FCA US LLC, which represents Stellantis in the United States of America, has a thing for inexplicably expensive products relative to their segment rivals. Chrysler is also hindered by historically poor quality control, which is likely to get worse under the Stellantis umbrella due to Carlos Tavares' ruthless cost-cutting measures. Carlos Ghosn approved, for sure!

As for the full-size truck segment's foreign minority, Tundra completely dominates Titan with 78,454 deliveries compared to 8,209 for Nissan's truck. Toyota claims 31.3% more deliveries compared to H1 2023, whereas the soon-to-be-discontinued Titan fell by -22.2%.

Tundra is a twin-turbo V6 truck across the board, but similar to FoMoCo, this fellow can be had with a small electric motor. The hybrid specification is dubbed i-FORCE MAX, and it should not be confused with the four-cylinder turbo i-FORCE MAX of the mid-size Tacoma.

Toyota's release for the second quarter of 2024 shows 26,867 deliveries for the Tundra i-FORCE MAX during the first six months of the year, up 88.1% from the first six months of last year. Only 6,807 deliveries in the US market separate the Tundra i-FORCE MAX from the F-150 PowerBoost.
