General Motors and Dallas-based telecommunications corporation AT&T will provide customers with options to buy data access via GM’s upcoming embedded 4G LTE mobile internet in most 2015 model year vehicles sold in the United States and Canada.
According to GM vice president of Global Connected Consumer Mary Chan, GM customers will be able to sign up for the company’s OnStar services with data, while AT&T customers can add the vehicle as a device through its data plans, which will allow them to “sign up to have Wi-Fi capability in the vehicle on a weekend basis”, Detroit News reports.
“So we’re trying to make this as flexible as possible and as easy as possible to get the customer used to buying data connections inside of their vehicles,” Chan said earlier this week during the Barclays Global Automotive Conference.
Pricing for the new service, which should become available in mid-2014, has yet to be announced.
