GM Refuses to Comment on Genii-Spyker Saab Bid

Although Spyker's boss promptly denied a possible joint bid for Saab, General Motors refuses to comment on such a possibility and doesn't give any indication whether it would accept or reject the proposal. However, General Motors officials continue to emphasize that those who are looking to purchase the Swedish unit must hurry as the company continues winding down the brand.

"Someone has to come up with something or it might be a bit late," a GM spokeswoman said, according to just-auto.com. "Obviously they are winding it down - the more it is wound down the less it is attractive to buy and get it to work properly. We are in a waiting position."

Genii Capital hasn't commented on such a possibility, while Spyker's CEO replied with a clear "no" when asked by Reuters if a joint bid is a possibility.

"Obviously we have seen various press coverage about the [Saab] bid, but we don't have any comment on anything like that," a Spyker spokesman told just-auto.

General Motors started winding down Saab but, meanwhile, it is also negotiating the sale of the company. It appointed AlixPartners to handle the closure and replaced Saab's CEO and board of directors with two liquidators.

"We're closing down Saab," GM Chairman and acting CEO Ed Whitacre was quoted as saying by Reuters earlier this month. "The offers we've received so far in terms of risk and financing up-front have been just as good as winding it down," GM Vice Chairman Bob Lutz added.
