Lately it seems that General Motors announces a call back operation every 24 hours or so. This instance, older generation Chevrolet Aveo subcompacts are recalled over melting electronics.
GM's fifth campaign this week includes 218,000 units of the Chevrolet Aveo subcompact from the 2004 to 2008 model years. The problem with these cars stems from the daytime running lights module, located deep in the center console of the instrument panel.
According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, General Motors says that the electronic component could overheat, melt and eventually cause a fire. Company officials aren't aware if the issue has been associated with any vehicle fire incidents, accidents or injuries.
An extra 214 Chevrolet Optra cars from the same model years are affected by the aforementioned defective DRL module. As opposed to almost every other GM vehicle recalled this year, including the 2.4 million cars affected by glitchy ignition switches, both the Aveo and Optra have been manufactured in South Korea, the home country of former GM-owned automobile manufacturer Daewoo.
We remind you that General Motors announced yesterday a series of recalls totaling 2.42 million vehicles. These are the Buick Enclave, Chevrolet Traverse, GMC Acadia, Saturn Outlook, Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx, Pontiac G6, Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado HD and GMC Sierra HD full-size pickup trucks.
