While Opel fights for survival in Europe, General Motors is pursuing a new buy-back scheme in India where it tries to phase out the remaining Opel Astras and Corsas. Basically, GM India is encouraging Opel owners to trade in their Astras and Corsas and get a new Chevrolet Optra.
In short terms, GM's certified engineers will conduct a detailed inspection over the cars the consumers bring to the showrooms and offer a market price based on the physical condition and model year of the vehicle.
"With the buy back scheme, we are giving an opportunity to our loyal customers to enjoy the Chevrolet experience. Our goal is to continue to reach out to our customers both new and old and provide them the best and the latest cars. Astra and Corsa were sold for ten and seven years, respectively, before introducing Chevrolet brand to India. This surely depicts our effort in taking care of our customers even after 10 years of ownership," P. Balendran, Vice President, General Motors India, said.
Chevrolet Optra is a rebadged version of the Lacetti and arrived in India in 2002. The hatchback version of the car is sold as Chevrolet Optra SRV. Specifically, the car is offered with two engine configurations, 1.6- and 1.8-liter and with a choice of three trims, Elite, Elite LS and LT Royale.
Back in 2007, General Motors India upgraded the Optra range with a new diesel unit which is sold separately as Optra Magnum. The car comes with several enhancements over the standard model, including slightly restyled interiors and minor exterior modifications.
