GM, one of the traditional supporters of the US military, took the opportunity and announced the expansion of its Military Discount program to cover spouses of Active and Reserve members, as well as retirees of the following branches: US Air Force, Army, Navy, Marines, National Guard and Coast Guard.
The discounts, which vary in between $500 and $4,000, will apply to most of the Chevrolet, Buick and GMC model ranges. GM, however, will not stop at just giving those interested a lower price than it usually charges.
The car maker will also provide an exclusive set of “Honor” vehicle badges for all those buying or leasing one of their cars in May, and with a military background. $100 for each purchase will be contributed to the Cell Phones for Soldiers non-profit group.
As a treat, a special version of the Chevrolet Camaro SS, “Honor & Valor” Limited Edition 2012, will be constructed by GM and sold to military personnel.
“We are committed to offering military professionals and their family members the best value in the industry,” said Dan Akerson, GM CEO. “As a former Navy man, I hold the highest regard for the men and women of our Armed Forces – past and present – who help keep our country safe and preserve our precious liberties.”
The program GM has been running for military personnel managed to attract 70,000 customers last year. GM awarded discounts totaling $60 million.
