Gerard Butler loves to ride, and he specifically loves to ride Triumph bikes. In October 2017, he got run off the road by a woman in a Mercedes-Benz and he’s now looking to get compensation for the injuries sustained.
The accident occurred in October 2017, when the woman pulled in front of Butler – who was riding his Triumph Bonneville – and cut lanes, giving him little time to brake or swerve to avoid the impact. Butler ended up hitting the car on the driver side and was thrown in the air.
Reports at the time and Butler himself said that he sustained only minor injuries in the fall. In court documents filed the other day and obtained by TMZ, the actor is saying he suffered “catastrophic injuries,” so he’s looking for damages from the female driver.
The case he’s making is apparently simple: the woman “negligently pulled her vehicle off the curb” and caused the crash. Because she’s responsible for the pain Butler ended up with, she is liable for damages.
In the interview at the bottom of the page, with AP at the premiere of “Geostorm,” which took place only days from the accident, Butler is choosing to look on the bright side of things. He says the accident was a wake-up call to him to “slow down and chill,” and insists that he wasn’t injured too badly. “A few fractures and a couple of torn things and sprains, but I’ll be totally [fine],” he says.
In other interviews, Butler added that he’d been going at about 35 mph and that he knew the impact would be strong enough to throw him off the bike. He recalled doing a “somersault” that felt longer than it probably lasted, and thinking he could die or become paralyzed if he didn’t land right.
Also to AP, Butler says the accident happened in the middle of 2 promotional tours and plans to start principal photography on 2 films. So, even if his injuries were minor (compared to the worst of what could have happened), they probably still cost him a lot of money in lost earnings, hence the lawsuit.
