The Genesis X Gran Racer Vision Gran Turismo Concept was developed for the Gran Turismo video game series but is also part of the X Series of concepts and the recent Genesis Magma efforts to establish a high-performance division for the luxury automaker.
The X series of prototypes debuted with the namesake X coupe GT that was presented in 2021 at the Los Angeles Auto Show, followed by the X Speedium Coupe (also a GT) that arrived in 2022 at the New York International Auto Show, the X Convertible (again at LA Auto Show) and the Neolun full-size crossover SUV that graced New York this year.
The color orange is obviously a reference to the new Genesis Magma sub-brand in the making, and the connection to the Gran Turismo video game series is also pretty evident, as we are dealing with a more extreme variant of the Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Vision Gran Turismo Concept from December 2023. Because Hyundai likes to cover all the basics, the Genesis X Gran Racer Vision Gran Turismo Concept was unveiled at the ongoing Busan International Mobility Show 2024 (BIMOS).
There, it's sharing the red carpet's spotlight from June 28 to July 7 at Exhibition Center 1 in the Busan Exhibition and Convention Center (BEXCO) with Hyundai's ultra-small A-segment Inster all-electric city vehicle as well as other models from the Genesis range – the Neolun Concept, two redesigned Electrified G80s, the GV70, GV80, and G90 Black. Of course, the X Gran Racer VGT is the head turner, the brand's fourth vehicle developed for the Gran Turismo video racing game series.
With active aerodynamics, the Two-Line Crest Grille lamp design, large aerodynamic elements, mid-engine layout, a long wheelbase and relatively short front overhangs, plus a rear carbon fiber wing, this Vision Gran Turismo concept is obviously an orange Magma sight to behold. Inside, there's only one focus – the driver, and a Digital Panorama Interface "seamlessly integrates essential vehicle information into a panoramic display." At the same time, the rest of the cockpit has a minimalist treatment in carbon fiber.
Oh, and let's not forget that Tesla's trends are easy to catch on to, so this concept has a "high-performance racing yoke," which is actually logical in this racing-focused context. As for the powertrain, there's a "front mid-mounted race-spec" Lambda II V6 engine fitted with Genesis' electric supercharger (E-S/C) technology. The hybrid powertrain has a combined output of 1,540 horsepower and 1,051 pound-feet of torque now, much higher than X Gran Berlinetta Concept's 1,071 hp and 986 lb-ft, with the V6 packing 870 hp and 790 lb-ft plus the front electric motor adding 670 hp and 225 lb-ft of torque.
Genesis has a dual electrification strategy based on fuel cell and battery-powered EVs, starting with the G80 and GV60 electric models, with the company aiming to become a 100% zero-emission vehicle brand by 2030 and then reach carbon neutrality by 2035.
